Lubbock is home to many accomplished, family-owned businesses that keep the community at the core of their operations. This beloved, one-of-a-kind, Parisian cafe is no different and offers up a truly unique experience.

But, there’s much more to the story of how Ninety-Two Bakery & Cafe came to be. What started in 1992 as a father-son duo crafting affordable homes in West Texas has turned into a company with eight diverse businesses under its belt.

Named after the year that started it all, Ninety-Two opened its doors a year ago and has been filled with Lubbock locals and visitors six days per week ever since. With its warm ambiance and the scent of freshly baked goods and batch-brewed espresso hitting you as you walk through the door, it’s no surprise this cafe has easily become a Lubbock favorite.

Inspired by the Betenbough family’s love for coffee and travel, Ninety-Two is the perfect fusion of French and American favorites.

Baked-in-house pastries, breads and treats greet customers as they walk up to the counter. With both a standard menu and rotating seasonal sweets and drinks, there’s something for everyone at this slice of France in the South Plains.

Whether you’re stopping in for a quick snack or a meal at breakfast or lunch, we’ve put together a list of our Ninety-Two favorites.

Artisan Drinks & Hand-Crafted Pastries

This cafe has a wide range of coffee and beverages to choose from, including a cortado, cappuccinos and tea lattes. Try the signature Ninety-Two latte, which features notes of brown sugar and cinnamon to create a nostalgic flavor profile we all know and love. For the ultimate pairing, order it with a freshly baked and flakey chocolate croissant.

Not a coffee drinker? Ninety-Two’s chai and matcha lattes are a tea lover’s dream. Iced or hot, these two classics will satisfy your craving and pair perfectly with the cinnamon roll.

Also on their bakery menu is scratch-made breads including baguette, country sourdough, focaccia, and jalapeno cheddar loaf. If they all have your mouth watering, order a bread basket and pair it with your choice of two butter, jam or savory toppings.

Pro Tip: When in doubt, always say yes to stopping by for an afternoon pick-me-up! From 2-3 PM daily, all remaining fresh pastries from the bakery are 50% off.

Breakfast & Lunch

Ninety-Two offers breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday and a specialty brunch menu only served on Saturday.

When dining, try one of the two versions of avocado toast that customers rave about. For breakfast, the classic take includes toasted sourdough bread topped with herbed ricotta, mashed avocado, watermelon radish, arugula, and a poached egg drizzled with a balsamic reduction. On the lunch menu, Caprese Avocado Toast is adorned with fresh pesto, sliced mozzarella, tomato, and arugula, topped with a balsamic glaze.

Another lunch favorite is the Turkey Harvest Sandwich, that’s topped with Vermont cheddar cheese, apple slices, arugula, apple butter, and the star of the show, a cranberry citrus glaze.

From the Croque Madame to the French Onion Soup and everything in between, you can’t go wrong with any of Ninety-Two’s decadent options.

Located off 82nd Street, Ninety-Two has a lot to offer. From a place to catch up with friends to a cozy study spot, once you step into this Lubbock gem you’ll want to take a piece of Ninety-Two Bakery & Cafe home with you. And, you’re in luck!

Ninety-Two carries cozy t-shirts and sweatshirts, logo mugs, croissant plushies and a new signature candle. The Brown Sugar Cinnamon combination is the perfect way to bottle up that “straight from the oven” scent and take it home with you.

To top it off, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get the perfect Instagram-worthy shot. From the umbrella ceiling to the plant propagation wall and the black and white elegant details covering this bakery, you’ll be living out your aesthetic cafe dreams.
