Known as the original live music capital of Texas, music lovers can catch a performance any night of the week in Lubbock, Texas. Home for singers and songwriters, Lubbock offers an impressive lineup of performers to practice their craft and for fans to discover up-and-coming voices. Whether it’s blues, rock, country or Hip Hop, each stage showcases the inspiration of the wide open spaces they call home.

As the birthplace of Buddy Holly, his legacy lives on through every note sung and key played in the “Hub City.” Throughout his life, Holly pushed the limits and reinvented music to what we know today. This art has not been lost on Lubbock as local talent continues to “rave on ” in performances every night of the week.

With acoustical shows at The Blue Light Live, tribute performances at the Cactus Theater and big names taking the stage at the United Supermarkets Arena, Lubbock stays true to its legacy putting on a one-of-a-kind show regardless of the setting. Music lovers have a variety of venues to choose from. From weekend shows at Cafe J, La Diosa and Louise Louise Piano Bar, as well as nightly talent at Rain Uptown, Blue Light Live, Funky Door Bistro & Wine Room and Triple J Chophouse, to summer showcases at McPherson Cellars, Buddy Holly Center, Abuelo’s and the Roof, Lubbock has a show for any preference. For a more intimate show, visit Burklee Hill Tasting Room at the historic Kress Building, Sugar Brown’s Coffee or Llano Estacado Winery.

Along with live music, Lubbock hosts music festivals and performances throughout the year. From Blue Light Live’s Street Show and JAB Fest to Lubbock Moonlight Musicals’ summer lineup, music fans of all genres can hear well-known performers like the Josh Abbott Band and other “Hub City” musicians as they step onto the stage.

Holly’s impact on the Lubbock community has brought forth the addition of the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences opening in the fall of this year. With his rock ‘n roll spirit lingering throughout the walls of the theater, community members will not only be able to utilize the resources provided to the public such as small theaters, the Ballet Lubbock school and Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, they will also experience state-of-the-art performance that rival those of Bass Hall and Carnegie Hall. With a perfectly rated NC 15 sound quality, each unmatched performance is a world-class experience.

With a rich pool of talent that continues to grow with each generation, the music tradition is carried on. As music fans continue to gather and enjoy each strum of the guitar or every heartbeat in sync with the drum, Lubbock will remain a hot spot for live music in the state.
