Local Holiday Shopping Guide

I am pleased to announce that I have finished all of my holiday gift shopping and if you are anything like me, this is a feat in and of itself. If you are the type that finishes by the end of October, please share with us how you do it. With a year like 2020, we should all buy ourselves a nice gift just for getting through it. In all seriousness, this year has been challenging for each of us, especially small businesses and business owners. It is more important than ever to support Lubbock’s small business community and I have the ULTIMATE “Hub City” gift guide for everyone in your life – from your dog to your neighbors – sourced from a few of our favorite local businesses below!

To kick off this gift guide let’s begin with the person we can all agree is the hardest to shop for: dad. I don’t know why this is the case but it just is. What do you get the man who has everything? Our friends at H.G. Thrash have the answer. It’s time to treat the man of the house like the king he is and outfit him from head to toe in the highest-quality threads Lubbock has to offer. What is better than a finely dressed man? Honestly, nothing. From wing-tipped shoes, skinny ties and well-fitted suits, each piece will take his wardrobe to the next level.

For the adventurers in your life, and we know there are a few, we recommend stopping by Mountain Hideaway. With an all-encompassing inventory ranging from Patagonia apparel to backpacking gear, this Lubbock favorite will send you into the great outdoors fully prepared and ready to take on whatever nature throws your way. Whether you need a new tent, pack, coat or ropes for climbing, the experts at Mountain Hideaway have you covered. In fact, check out the Visit Lubbock Instagram for an in-depth look into this canyoneerer’s oasis under the shop local highlight reel.

It may not look a lot like Christmas right now, but after a visit to Troy’s Ski Shop on your way to the slopes, it certainly will begin to. Being only a few hours from the fresh powder puts Lubbock at an advantage when it comes to shredding the slopes. Whether you are looking for ski gear or to wax your board, Troy’s can do it all. Some of my favorite gifts to give or receive are experiences I can do with loved ones. This year, gift your special someone a weekend to the ski resort along with a new set of gear!

We all have that one special woman in our life who we wish we could gift them the world. I believe that one step into Chrome makes you truly believe that you can. With the hippest selection of home decor and accessories to the trendiest outfits you will ever lay your eyes on, this boutique is an absolute dream. You can also find Anthropologie exclusives here along with everyone’s favorite scent, the Capri Blue Volcano candle. If you are at a loss on what to gift your girl, I promise you that anything in this store will suffice.

Chrome also has fashionable doggy toys and accessories for the goodest of boys in your life. With a new collar and matching leash, your pooch will be the fashionista of the dog park this spring!

I can’t bring up home decor and not rave about Odds & Ends. A home can never have enough trinkets and treasures, and at this local boutique, the selection is never-ending. If you are looking for a few items to pay homage to the 806 that will sit on your bookshelf, look no further. This place said “Lubbock, Texas, but make it chic.” From throw pillows, bookends, wall hangings and so much more, this is the ultimate “Hub City” home decor shop.

For all of our crazy plant ladies who we love and adore, stop by Red Riding Hood Nursery. Coming from a plant connoisseur myself, the plant selection at this local nursery boasts quite a variety. Whether I want to gift a succulent terrarium or a nice pothos (the foolproof option that will never die), the price and quality of Red Riding Hood can’t be beaten. All green thumbs from beginner to expert will appreciate the thought placed into gifting a simple plant. It’s also a great idea and a long-lasting gift for your neighbors, colleagues or distant relatives.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the amazing local talent that runs through this city. To me, gifting art is a thoughtful gesture that lets someone know a beautiful piece made you think of them. It could be a neat ceramic mug or a thought-provoking painting that deeply touches you. Whatever it is, Lubbock is not short of artisans looking to make your season a little brighter. Right now, LHUCA’s virtual affordable art sale is still going until Dec. 19 at lhuca.org/market
