On June 20, soccer fans and athletes from across the region gathered at the recently renovated Berl Huffman Athletic Complex for the grand opening kicked off by the West Texas Soccer Tournament. Eighty-eight teams from across the southwest competed on the synthetic turf championship fields. This state-of-the-art complex has placed Lubbock at the top of its game.
The Berl Huffman Athletic Complex features over 50 fields suitable for any sport requiring a flat field including soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, Quidditch, and more. It is also accommodating to tournaments of all sizes ranging from 3v3 to collegiate-grade events. The championship complex makes it possible to play up to eight games simultaneously on 375,000 square-feet of world-class fields.
The athlete experience is unlike any other at the Berl Huffman Athletic Complex. While players compete to win, spectators are favored with new bleachers, food trucks, additional restroom facilities and accessible parking to ensure each visit to Lubbock’s premier sporting facility is positive.
Not only is this new development well-equipped to meet the needs of both athlete and spectator, it is also constructed with sustainability in mind. A newly designed irrigation system runs throughout the complex utilizing recycled water to ensure high-quality playing grass. Each field is lit using LED lighting as well.
“If you build a place where people want to come, you build a place where people want to live and a place where businesses want to be,” said John Osborne, CEO and President of Visit Lubbock. “With the recent development of this complex, we are investing back into our community and creating a city where citizens and visitors can win.”
This West Texas sports gem rivals those in larger metro areas while offering a more affordable event. The “Hub City” boasts the amenities of a big city, while providing small-town prices with a friendly culture found throughout its citizens. By blocking out hotel rooms and acquiring special rates for your event, Lubbock Sports will ensure a competitive price catered to the needs of your team.
