Experience One Night Of Queen with Gary Mullen & The Works at the Cactus Theater! Join the electrifying live concert tribute to Queen’s legendary music and Freddie Mercury’s iconic vocals.  

From noon to 1 p.m. each Wednesday this summer, take a lunch break and head downtown to the Lubbock County Courthouse for a concert under the gazebo. The last day of the Summer Concert Series is August 9th. 

August 2 – Yoga in the Park 

Yoga in the Park at Adventure Park takes place every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. You can unwind, connect with other moms and enjoy a tranquil session surrounded by nature while your kids engage in supervised playtime with access to the Laser Maze and Ocean Playground.

The National Ranching Heritage Center offers trolley tours that allow visitors to travel back in time and explore its 19-acre historical park. The tours are available until August 31st, occurring weekly on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They are free of charge and last about 45 minutes. To join the tour, visitors can reserve their spot inside Cogdell’s at the Ranch upon arrival at the NRHC.

August 3 – Summer Showcase 2023

Experience spectacular performances from local and regional bands every Thursday in August at the Buddy Holly Center’s Summer Showcase, with over 23 years of live, original music catering to every taste; all concerts are free, family-friendly, and accompanied by food trucks, cash bar, and free children’s craft activities, plus explore Buddy Holly exhibitions and the Fine Arts Gallery with free admission. 

August 4 – First Friday Art Trail 

A visit to Lubbock during the first of the month is only complete by stopping by the First Friday Art Trail (FFAT) hosted by LHUCA. FFAT is a free, self-guided art tour held in the Lubbock Cultural District in partnership with various art centers, museums, galleries, and downtown businesses. While there, enjoy live music, food trucks, and art from local, national, and international artists.

Fan Halen, renowned as “The World’s Most Authentic Tribute to Van Halen,” brings the spirit of an era to life, setting the stage for an unforgettable night. Experience a true-to-life tribute at the Cactus Theater that captures not only the music but also the essence of the band.

Auditions for Real Women Have Curves will be held on August 4th and 5th at The Edge Theatre. Real Women Have Curves was written by highly acclaimed and award-winning Hispanic playwright Josefina López and directed by local Hispanic actress and director Mallory Flores. Performances will occur in September!

Experience the vibrant Food & Wine Market at English Newsom Cellars, where you can indulge in a variety of flavorful rosé, aromatic whites, and bold reds. There is an abundance of food and wine options to satisfy any craving. Make sure to visit on Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

August 5 – Ranch Verse

Join cowboy songster Andy Hedges and special guests Boots O’Neal, Randy Rieman, Dave Stamey, Red Steagall, and Andy Wilkinson for a day of Western storytelling, song and poetry at the inaugural Ranch Verse. Daytime events will be free to the public and take place from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at The National Ranching Heritage Center, followed by an evening concert at the Cactus Theater. 

August 5 – Summer Fun Fest 

Join the Summer Fun Fest at Adventure Park for a full day of excitement, featuring a car show, food trucks, beach party activities, and live music.

Hubbard is exhibiting their current work in the LHUCA Christine DeVitt Jones Exhibition Hall. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet the artist and learn more about the work!

The third annual Keep Levelland Beautiful Community Wide Garage Sale is on August 5th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Click the link for instructions on how to register!

Experience the joy of fishing at the 14th Annual Vamos a Pescar, Let’s Go Fishing Event, held at Buddy Holly Lake on August 5th, where everyone can participate for free. 

August 6 – 502 Jam Night  

Join Two Docs Brewing Co. for 502 Jam Night every Sunday, 6 – 9 p.m.!

August 7 – Mystery Movie Night    

Grab your lawn chair and blanket for Mystery Movie Night at Adventure Park, beginning at 8:45 p.m.

August 7 – Trivia Night 

Every Monday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., join Two Docs Brewing Co. for their Trivia Nights!

August 7 – Wheel Throwing Classes 

Explore the art of wheel-throwing pottery with beginner and intermediate classes recurring weekly on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Secure your spot by pre-registering in advance.

August 10 – Un(wine)d With The Arts  

Join LHUCA on Thursdays following First Friday Art Trail for a glass of wine and a stroll through the galleries featuring artist meet & greets. LHUCA members will receive a free glass of wine!

Experience the sounds of classic country music as Will Banister and his full band take the stage at the historic Cactus Theater, showcasing his nostalgic yet fresh songs influenced by legends like Merle Haggard and George Strait and featuring hits from his highly acclaimed album “Everything Burns.”

The renowned Latin Breed, considered one of the most influential bands in Tejano music history, takes the stage at Buddy Holly Hall, offering a unique blend of distinctive Tejano sounds that have stood the test of time since their formation in 1969.

August 12 – Ropes Course Workout 

Adventure Park is hosting a Ropes Course Workout on August 12th, where you can expect a new, fun, and challenging way to exercise that engages your whole body and connects you with a vibrant community of fitness enthusiasts.

Join Cactus Theater for the mega-watt tribute to pop-rock legends Journey, Fleetwood Mac, and Chicago, featuring Caldwell Collective’s finest singers and musicians.

Journey into the Wild West, 1890 in this classic story of good versus evil, law versus the gun, one man versus Liberty Valance. A stage play telling of love, hope and revenge set against the vicious backdrop of a lawless society. See the show at Buddy Holly Hall on August 15th and 16th!

August 17 – Charlie Robison in Concert 

Get ready for an unforgettable evening as veteran country artist Charlie Robison takes the stage with his authentic personality, narrative vocals, and entertaining “Good Time Charlie” show at Buddy Holly Hall, performing fan favorites and hits from his Live at Billy Bob’s Texas CD and DVD.

August 18 – 2023 Black Business Expo  

The Black Business Expo is a two-day event showcasing Black-owned businesses in Lubbock, highlighting the diverse array of local businesses in the West Texas area. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with, support, and connect with registered vendors, offering a platform to explore products, make purchases, book services, and network within the Black business community.

Experience the long-awaited return of Uncle Lucius as they bring their soulful, Americana-infused music to the Cactus Theater after a five-year hiatus, promising a unique blend of folk, classic rock n roll, and blues that captivates audiences with personal stories in an intimate setting.

Don’t miss out on the highly anticipated return of Del Castillo, a dynamic powerhouse band that transcends boundaries, captivating music lovers of all ages with their soul-lifting, original blend of rock, Latin, blues, and world music.

August 19 – Artful Family Hours 

On every third Saturday of the month, join LUCHA for Artful Family Hours! Bring your whole family for a kid-friendly art activity in the galleries based on one of the current exhibitions. Free and open to the public!

August 20 – Alice Cooper

Prepare to be captivated by Alice Cooper as he brings his iconic rock psychodrama to Buddy Holly Hall with a theatrical and electrifying performance that blends horror, vaudeville, and garage rock, showcasing his timeless hits such as “School’s Out,” “Poison,” and “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” solidifying his status as a pioneering figure in the world of hard rock.

The ‘I Want My 80’s Tour’ with Rick Springfield, The Hooters, Paul Young and Tommy Tutone is coming to the big stage at Cook’s Garage. Listen to the biggest hits from the 80s sung by some of rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest legends!

Firehouse Presents! Wamaygallo, the El Paso-based band brings a fervor of punk rock and melds it with the contagious energy of traditional Colombian Cumbia. Come to the Firehouse Theatre on August 24 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and experience Wamaygallo!

The members of 24K Magic are world-class, professional musicians who have worked with the music industry’s best. Together, they deliver the ultimate Bruno Mars concert experience. Experience it yourself live at the Cactus Theater!  

August 26 – Landmark After-Dark Hike 

Landmark After Dark Night Hikes are nocturnal adventures through the Yellow House Draw. This monthly event begins 30 mins before sunset and lasts from 75 to 90 mins. This night hike is free and open to all ages. 

August 26 – Lubbock Live Festival

The third annual Lubbock Live Festival will include 20 music performances across three stages, recurring theater performances in the Firehouse at LHUCA, dance performances, visual artists, local vendors, and food trucks throughout the day. 

Featuring performances by Incubus, Third Eye Blind, Badflower and Paris Jackson, Tacos & Tequila Fest is bringing you the best of rock music with a West Texas Twist. With a top-notch food truck lineup, a Black Sheep Tequila Margarita Bar and more, this music festival is one summer event you don’t want to miss. 

August 26 – Community Car Show 

Adventure Park is hosting a Community Car Show to support the Lubbock Aquarium! Take part in this exciting event by registering early for just $15, which includes 2 General Admission bands to the park. On the day of the event, registration will be available for $20.

Jelly Roll will be taking the stage at the United Supermarkets Arena on Tuesday, August 29 with special guests Chase Rice, Struggle Jennings and Josh Adam Meyers as part of his Backroad Baptism Tour.

August 31 – Steve Aoki 

Steve Aoki is taking the big stage at Cook’s Garage, delivering a one-of-a-kind performance that promises to be unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.

August 31 – Girl Scouts Dessert First 

Enjoy live music while trying fourteen featured chef’s desserts inspired by Girl Scout cookies paired with English Newsom wine. All funds raised at Desserts First directly impact the work of Girl Scouts in the Lubbock community!
