Planning a getaway for families with autism and/or sensory sensitivities requires thorough research and understanding of the destination. What might seem like a casual day at the museum, may be an overwhelming experience to some. Luckily, the “Hub City” offers an array of activities and events that cater to each visitor. Take a look below at a few sensory-friendly ventures in Lubbock, Texas.

Adventure Park
In the summer months, Adventure Park is the place to play mini golf, steer bumper boats and race down the speedway. Adventure Park offers handicapped accessible walkways and even two seater go-karts and bumper boats, ensuring both ease and companion comfort when enjoying a sunny Lubbock day.

Joyland Amusement Park
Joyland Amusement Park is a great option when looking for an outdoor activity to do with the family. Don’t worry about waiting in lines, guests with special needs can enter rides through the “exit” gate with ease. If requested, Joyland is happy to adjust park music to half volume to accommodate guests.

Lubbock Premiere IMAX
When planning your trip to the LBK, be sure to check the local theaters for sensory-friendly showings of popular movies. During the showings, the theater will turn the lights up and the volume down so movie goers can get up and dance or sing along to the featured flick without fear of being overwhelmed.

Ballet Lubbock’s Annual Performance of the Nutcracker
As the year comes to an end, Ballet Lubbock’s annual performance of The Nutcracker is a must-see. Be on the lookout for sensory-friendly showings when tickets go on sale this winter. With stage lights and music at half volume and an interactive, abridged version of the classic performance, the show is sure to make every audience member feel comfortable as they enjoy this timeless Christmas tale.

Milestones Development & Play Park
The future of Lubbock is welcoming visitors of all walks of life. Soon to open, Milestones Development & Play Park, a place where every child is special, regardless of their ability level, will open its doors in the “Hub City”. Milestones’ goal is to be a place where parents can connect with their children and kids can experience the true joy of play together, embracing each other’s unique gifts.
