A Group Tour Operator’s Guide to the LBK

By: Tory Mitchell

Welcome, to Lubbock, Texas – home of Buddy Holly and the Crickets, the largest windmill museum in the world, the one and only Prairie Dog Town, and where West Texas hospitality still reigns king. Here, your groups will be welcomed with open arms and truly feel how grateful we are for their visit to the “Hub City”.

Lubbock offers a wide variety of group friendly attractions, lodging, and dining. Interested in history museums? Look no further than the Silent Wings Museum, which is dedicated to the WWII glider pilots that trained right on site. Be sure to take advantage of the two for one ticket and stroll through Lubbock’s second city museum, the Buddy Holly Center. If agriculture is more your group’s cup of tea, the National Ranching Heritage Center is truly remarkable and takes you back in time to see a glimpse of what ranching looked like from the 1700s through the mid-1900s on this 19-acre park. Agriculture wouldn’t be what it is today without the work of the farming equipment seen at the FiberMax Center for Discovery. You would be doing yourself a disservice by leaving this museum without getting behind the wheel of the cotton stripper simulator!

A group cannot come to Lubbock and leave with an empty stomach! A few operator favorites have been being in the company of free ranging peacocks at E&J Smokehouse and Grill, enjoying a mesquite smoked ribeye at Cagle’s Steaks, and eating a delicious cheeseburger under neon lights at Cook’s Garage. Does your group have a sweet tooth to cap off the night? Don’t miss stopping at Pie Bar on the way back to your hotel.

Speaking of hotels, Lubbock offers a range of properties to fit all styles, reward programs, and budgets. Some of the newest include Cotton Court Hotel, where guests are greeted with a s’mores kit to roast at one of the multiple outdoor fireplaces, DoubleTree by Hilton that overlooks downtown’s pride and joy, The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences, and the soon to open Aloft located in the West End Shopping Center. With over 70 hotels to choose from, the options are endless!

The Visit Lubbock team takes pride in our sense of good old-fashioned, West Texas hospitality, which is why you will be assisted from the very beginning of your planning process to the moment your bus pulls out of town on the way to its next destination. For detailed information on our complimentary itinerary planning assistance and services, please contact Group Tour Sales Manager Tory Mitchell.

We look forward to welcoming your groups in the very near future!
