From bright orange sunsets and tangled tumbleweeds to our Western heritage and pioneering spirit, Lubbock, Texas paints the perfect picture of the wild west. Founded on the West Texas values of grit, independence and hospitality, event planners will find the Hub City to be a unique venue offering attendees an escape from the big city. By incorporating Wild West Texas themes into the framework of the event, attendees will find themselves immersed in the unexpected culture of Lubbock.

Although some attendees might prefer the familiarity of flag hotels, consider scheduling a room block at a local boutique hotel to showcase the area’s history. In Lubbock, the Overton Hotel & Conference Center offers a cowboy flair through design and cuisine at the Pecal Grill located onsite. At the Cotton Court Hotel, located downtown, the property pays tribute to the area’s cotton history with nods to rock ‘n’ roll icon Buddy Holly.

For a taste of the city, incorporating local restaurant catering is a delicious way to connect attendees to the wild west roots in Lubbock. The locally sourced and regionally inspired ingredients featured at Lubbock’s food trucks and restaurants like Cast Iron Grill do just that. Known for boots, pies and chicken fry, Teresa and her team serve mouthwatering dishes the locals can’t get enough of. Be sure to save room for a slice of the famous banana split or Texas Delight pie.

A true Texas meeting wouldn’t be complete without barbecue. At Evie Mae’s, which is recognized as the No. 8 best BBQ join in the state, the brisket reigns king. Paired with the all-gluten-free menu of sides, this will be one meal your attendees will never forget.

Travel back in time via tastebuds with the original food truck, the chuck wagon! Scheduled through the National Ranching Heritage Center, local chuck wagon cooks create an authentic meal with a genuine 18th-century backdrop at the Center. While there, plan an offsite event or breakout session amidst the 19-acre park which features over 50 historically accurate structures that showcase the evolution of ranching in North America.

This fall, the Center is unveiling the Cash Family Ranch Life Learning Center, which will educate guests on the workings and significance of ranching through the perspective of Hank the Cowdog. It will also feature a replica of a working ranch complete with holograms of cowboys saddling horses.

Other local venues that encapsulate the West Texas heritage include the American Windmill Museum which boasts the largest collection of windmills in the world. Follow the innovation of windmill technology throughout time while enjoying a meal or meeting on the United Commons Patio.

For a post-meeting night out, encourage attendees to explore the city! At the Blue Light Live, modern day singer/songwriters that come from our region make their debut! In the heart of the Depot Entertainment District, Monday nights come to life as up-and-coming musicians of West Texas take center stage and perform under the spotlight that has lit the fuse of many Texas country artists’ careers. Also located in the Depot, Shotgun Sue’s Saloon is an old west-inspired tavern that takes you back to the wild west immediately upon entering.
