Loading… Lubbock Summer Bucket List!

Pack your bags, leave the stress behind and head to the Hub City for these 7 must-do activities. Great outdoor spaces, live music venues, foodie favorites and more make summer a great time to visit and explore what this West Texas city offers.

Tee Up in the 806

Whether you are a pro ready to hit all 18 rounds or an amateur golfer looking for a place to play, there is a golf venue for everyone in Lubbock. To hit a couple of rounds and perfect your swing, head to The Range or 4ore Golf! Lubbock is also home to premier public golf courses, such as Rawls Course, Shadow Hills and Reese Golf Center. Check out our Lubbock Sports Guide to Golf for a more extensive list of public, private and municipal courses. If you’re looking to beat the heat or cool off with an ice-cold drink of choice, check out Mulligan’s Golf Bar and take a swing at the indoor golf simulators!

Splash the Heat Away

There are many ways to escape the West Texas heat this summer! Pools, lakes and water adventures- what more could you ask for? Water Rampage is open for the summer through August 15th and is home to multiple slides and a wave pool. If you’re looking for a more laid-back option, the Texas Tech University Leisure pool has afternoon family hours for the community to experience the legendary lazy river. Sup LBK features paddle boarding, kayaking, sunset paddling and full moon paddling at Dunbar Historical Lake and is the perfect group activity.

Hiking Around Hub City

Adventure awaits with these fantastic opportunities to get outside and be active this summer. Caprock Canyon, an hour and a half drive from the heart of Lubbock, is the third largest state park in Texas with 13,960 acres and makes the perfect day trip.

Under a two-hour drive away is Palo Duro Canyon, which features the second-largest canyon in the country with excellent hiking trails.

Dunbar Historical Lake and Landmark Lake are for those looking for a local walking trail. The Dunbar Historical Lake is a two-and-a-half-mile walk around the lake and a great opportunity to take in a few prairie dog sightings along the way. Landmark Lake features fun summer events like the Dawn of Time Fun Run on Saturday, July 22nd, and Landmark after Dark Night Hikes.

Down for Disc Golf?

Whether you play on a course of 9 or 18 holes, the Lubbock disc golf venues accommodate any need! There are three local parks perfect for playing on a warm summer day. Mackenzie Park features 21 holes and baskets and Mae Simmons and McAlister Park both feature 18 holes. For more information on venues, check out Lubbock Sports. If you require Disc Golf gear, head to Storm Disc Golf near Indiana and 82nd.

Jump into Summer

Head to Lubbock’s  Altitude Trampoline Park for an indoor activity the whole family can enjoy. A great way to burn off the summer energy while escaping the heat, check out the current special events.

Dine-In and Drive-In at Stars & Stripes

A unique movie-watching experience, Stars & Stripes is a retro-themed movie drive-in with three outdoor screens that play double features. With an on-site American diner serving yummy bites and great movie-watching snacks, get out and enjoy the fantastic summer weather while watching this summer’s blockbusters.

Experience the West Texas Nightlife

It wouldn’t be a West Texas summer without live music, right? Well, don’t worry. We have you covered this summer with concerts from Patt Green & Casey Donahew, Luke Bryan and so much more. Check the events page for a more extensive list of all the outstanding artists coming to the Hub City.

There is always live music somewhere, such as the long list of artists booked for The Blue Light this June. If country music isn’t your thing, that’s okay. There is a wide range of entertainment headed our way, from comedians to Broadway performances. Be sure to catch Hamilton, coming to the Buddy Holly Hall this July for a two-week run of the award-winning musical!

There are so many unique and adventurous ways to explore Lubbock this summer. Now, it’s time to get out there and make summer memories that will last a lifetime! Make sure to tag us in your adventures using #LiveLoveLubbock.
