Lubbock’s summers can’t be beat. From live music and festivals to performances under the stars, the options are endless each May through September. Whether you prefer warm nights out or afternoons spent on the patio, check out these five can’t-miss summer events!

Summer Showcase at the Buddy Holly Center
On Thursday nights in the Depot District, music lovers gather together to celebrate the legacy of Buddy Holly as his spirit lives on through each Lubbock musician performing at the Buddy Holly Center. Guests are invited to take a seat or dance along to the music while enjoying the warm Lubbock breeze with a drink in hand. This event is free to the public.

Moonlight Musicals
Deep in the heart of MacKenzie Park, the arts come to life on stage at the Moonlight Musicals Amphitheatre. Moonlight Musicals entertains, educates and provides the community with an enriching experience through live musical theatre. Each night throughout the summer Lubbock’s talent is on stage performing favorites like The Sound of Music and In the Heights. Don’t forget to check out what they have lined up for this summer

Cactus Theater
Originally built as a movie theater in the 1930s, this iconic venue is home to a diverse line-up of performances, including a plethora of tribute shows for any fans of ABBA, Queen or Buddy Holly, to name a few. The Cactus Theater is located in the Depot District in Downtown Lubbock. This is the perfect date-night, or group activity, for any summer night. Concert goers can grab a bite to eat across the street at Triple J Chophouse before the show! Pro tip: Order the Choppy Bob nachos. Mark your calendar for upcoming shows at the Cactus Theater.

4th on Broadway
No 4th of July is complete without a hometown parade celebrating the red, white and blue! Luckily for us, Lubbock, Texas knows how to celebrate Independence Day. With a parade marching through Broadway Street in downtown and festivities occurring all day at MacKenzie Park including a concert, fireworks and carnival fun for the whole family, this is one event you won’t want to miss.

High Noon Concert Series
Located at the Lubbock County Courthouse Gazebo, the High Noon Concert Series showcases local talent each Wednesday at noon from June to August. This one hour concert is the ideal way to spend a lunch hour, offering food trucks around the park. The High Noon Concert Series is an outdoor concert and is free to the public.

Whether you are a local looking for summer fun in the 806, or planning a trip to the “Hub City”, this is just the start of all there is to do when it comes to a summer in the LBK. Share your favorite summer activity with us #LiveLoveLubbock!
