If you’ve ever been downtown during lunch, you’ve probably seen the crowd of people flocking to Giorgio’s Pizza. We had a chance to catch up with the owner, Daniel Torres and enjoyed some truly amazing food.

The New York style pizza makes the food at Giorgio’s Pizza so unique, and the “Texas size pizza,” at 28 inches is the largest pizza in Lubbock. The restaurant uses a brick oven to bake the pizza and calzones after making all of the dough fresh from scratch every day. This has been the regular procedure for Giorgio’s Pizza employees for the last 25 years. The effort and style are definitely noticed, as the classics, pizza and calzones, are hard to beat. Perfect crust all the way through, with delicious cheeses and steaming meats.

Famous Georgio’s Calzones

The original owner, George Shadid, opened Giorgio’s Pizza 25 years ago with his family’s recipes from Italy. When George decided to retire, Daniel stepped in and bought the restaurant to continue the tradition of great food and customer service after working for George for five years. People will still see George from time to time when he comes in to enjoy the food and company of the customers.

Next lunch break, make plans to visit Giorgio’s Pizza to try their popular calzone or one of their lunch specials. Also, don’t let the long lines scare you away. Giorgio’s Pizza will get your food to you with plenty of time to eat and get back to work. Trust us, it will be well worth the wait.
