From public art collections to curated studio spaces and gallery displays of local and international pieces, there are many different opportunities to see art come to life before you. Art lovers, make your way to Downtown Lubbock and add a stop by the Texas Tech campus to make the most out of your time here. 

LHUCA First Friday Art Trail | 511 Ave. K 

The First Friday Art Trail is a self-guided public art viewing and market. Held in the Lubbock Cultural District, this monthly event brings in collectors, artists, visitors and community members. A wide variety of art is displayed throughout the trail in galleries, museums and businesses. This event is held every first Friday of the month from 6 to 9 p.m. Check out the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, Charles Adams Galleries and the Artisan booths set up throughout the area. 

Texas Tech University Public Art Collection | 2500 Broadway 

Texas Tech University’s campus is filled with creative displays of public art pieces. You can schedule a guided tour via art cart, driving or walking. You can also stroll through the collection on a self-guided tour using the ArTTreck App which will point you in the right direction and tell you more details about each piece. No matter how you choose to see it, you won’t be disappointed by this beautiful and extensive art collection. 

LHUCA | 511 Ave. K

Featuring four galleries of exhibition space, the Louise Hopkins Center for the Arts hosts over 25 exhibitions annually. The galleries are open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free for viewers of all ages. Check their gallery page to see the current artist’s showcases. 

Charles Adams Studio Project or CASP | 602 Ave J. 

The CASP 5 & J Gallery is a professional-grade exhibition space that hosts an annual series of ever-changing and innovative exhibitions. The 5&J Gallery features 12 exhibitions per year with local and visiting artists and is home to four facilities: a print studio, metals studio, foundry and live-work studios. 

Museum of Texas Tech University | 3301 4th St. 

This multifaceted cultural museum is open to the public and features collections from anthropology to natural history and everything in between. Different exhibits rotate through the museum. Currently, there is an exhibit featuring Wildlife Photographer of the Year images from the current and previous years’ competitions. Celebrating artistic composition, technical innovation and truthful interpretation of the natural world, be sure to visit this exhibit during your next visit. 

Lubbock Arts Festival  | 1502 Mac Davis Lane. 

The annual spring Lubbock Arts Festival is a two-day event at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center featuring concerts, art exhibits and displays showcasing over 100 traveling visual artists. Admission is $5, and children under 12 are free.

Now that you’ve explored what the Lubbock arts scene has to offer, allow your inspiration to translate into creating a piece of your own. Here is a list of places to roll up your sleeves and get creative in the Hub City: 

Glassalley Art Studio and Gallery  | 1940 Texas Ave. 

This mosaic studio and gallery in Downtown Lubbock features mosaics done by Pauline. She showcases some of her pieces for purchase and offers mosaic-making classes. The three-hour course is offered on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, starting at $50. 

Hawaii Fluid Art | 13603 Slide Rd. 

Hawaii Fluid Art offers one hour classes in one of the newest art studio additions to Lubbock. At Hawaii Fluid Art, you can make resin art and tumblers and participate in glass, rock and acrylic painting. Prices vary depending on the canvas size and art experience. Book your experience ahead of time online. 

Clay Cafe | 5102 60th St. Suite H

Lubbock’s paint-your-own pottery studio allows you to pick the piece you want to personalize at this family-friendly attraction. A laid-back activity, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and take home your hand-painted pieces afterward.

Clay Studio at LHUCA | 511 Ave. K

Whether you’re interested in throwing or sculpting, LHUCA offers many adult and kid-friendly art classes. You can learn how to wheel-throw your clay piece or hone your sculpture skills. As you learn different techniques, instructors will guide you through the entire creation process. Offered in the evenings, these classes are a unique learning experience for all ages. 

CASP Workshops | 602 Ave. J. 

CASP regularly hosts public classes and workshops at the Print Studio and Metals Studio & Foundry. Printing classes for press printing posters are often offered by artists such as Victoria Marie Bee, and artists from the Metals Studio provide metalworking classes as well. Check their website for new updates on upcoming courses.
