‘Twas a Hub City Night Before Christmas

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and across the Southern Plains
Prairie dogs were heard echoing their joyous strains
The locals were eating their Evie Mae’s feast
As the sound of laughter began to increase

The children were jumping with pure joy and glee
As the lights flashed colors on the Christmas tree
And there we sat, a not so silent night
Bellies and hearts full, no emptiness in sight

Down 34th were carolers singing with cheer
A song of hope for what seemed to be a hopeless year
The support for Lubbock was felt from the heart
Persevering together, but six feet apart

Out on Tech campus, Soapsuds was riding
To spur on the Raiders, scarlet and black fighting
Fans from all over hollered, chanted and cheered
Fearless Champions thanking God for Chris Beard

In downtown stood Buddy and his famous glasses
Knowing his music was known by the masses
He picked his guitar
And looked at the Hall
His legacy raves on and lives in us all

Above a West Texas field of cotton
There was something or someone we had not forgotten
Ole Saint Nick and his lustrous sleigh
made a grand appearance in the LBK

With a sled pulled by what looked like mule deer he came
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
“Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen!

Up, up in the sky they flew
The magic of Christmas was alive and true
Santa Claus himself waved me farewell
And along with the sound of jingle bells
He let out a deep laugh and said with all his might —
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

Merry Christmas from the Visit Lubbock team!
