In the face of a continuing health crisis, meeting planners are met with a variety of new challenges. Postponements and cancellations, along with social distancing guidelines have become somewhat of a new normal for 2020. When attending a sporting event, attendees and competitors alike want to have the confidence that their host venue is taking the necessary precautions to ensure their safety – which is exactly what you will find in the “Hub City”. When considering where to book your next event, don’t forget about Lubbock, Texas.

As a naturally socially distanced location, there are plenty of wide-open spaces to utilize for all sizes of events, whether it be an industry conference or sports tournament. But, don’t just take our word for it! Lubbock Sports recently hosted and sponsored the Lubbock Sports Labor Day Cup in partnership with T2 Sporting at the newly renovated Berl Huffman Athletic Complex. With over 70 teams, athletes from across the region made their way to the “Hub City” to compete in this tournament.

Travis Tew with T2 Sporting said maneuvering through the newfound challenges of planning a sporting event during COVID-19 was possible because of the services provided by Lubbock Sports and Visit Lubbock.

Throughout the duration of the planning process, our team works to create a tournament worthy of a gold medal in the weeks leading up to it by creating comprehensive proposals and aiding in additional marketing efforts as well as acquiring facility rates and availability from various venues across the city. When asked what was most challenging about his experience in executing this tournament, Tew mentioned that although it was difficult to find staff and spread the word about the Labor Day Cup, Lubbock Sports was in constant communication throughout the entire process and was able to supply onsite staff as well as market the tournament to an audience T2 Sporting may not have been able to reach.

Players and spectators from across West Texas and into Eastern New Mexico gathered together to celebrate the game they love. Rest assured, each athlete, coach and fan will enjoy a safe experience while attending an event in Lubbock. Each Lubbock Sports and Visit Lubbock event adheres to the Lubbock Safe! guidelines set by local officials to ensure a healthy community. These guidelines include, but are not limited to, maintaining social distancing and wearing a face covering when not competing, staying home if feeling sick and regularly washing hands.

Over the past six months, Lubbock Sports has sponsored three soccer tournaments at the Berl Huffman Athletic Complex with three more scheduled for this fall. When asked why Lubbock is a great place to host a meeting or sporting event during this time, Tew said. “They are open and willing to help make your event a success.”

Lubbock is open for business and ready to host your next event! Visit our website or contact Scott Harrison for more information.
