Dr. Chilton walked up to the bar with one thing on his mind: a refreshing drink that would temper the heat of a West Texas summer.
Four ingredients and a few instructions later, the bartender served a simple and refreshing beverage garnished with a lemon wedge. Legend has it, that’s what took place at the Lubbock Country Club around 5o years ago.
Since the 70s, local bartenders have continued to pass down the story of the Chilton by serving the original and curating new twists on the craft cocktail.
Ordering a Chilton at any restaurant or bar within city limits is second nature, but the further you travel outside of West Texas, the less common they’ll be.
