In the High Plains of Texas, the land is flat and the soil is rich. These qualities, coupled with the region’s low humidity, offer the perfect environment for growing wine grapes.
In 1996, Texas Tech University professors Clinton “Doc” McPherson and Robert Reed planted an experimental vineyard including 140 varietals. With a successful trial behind them, the two founded Llano Estacado Winery ten years later, and it is still one of the finest in the state.
Today, the High Plains grows 90% of Texas Wine Grapes, meaning a trip to Lubbock offers a true vine-to-glass experience like no other.
Some wineries sit inside city limits and others call the fertile land of surrounding areas home, but each offer a unique, curated take on High Plains wine.
From vineyard views to barrel tasting tours and monthly wine subscriptions, craft your personalized wine getaway in the LBK.
