With first-rate venues, ease of transportation, an abundance shopping and entertainment and nearly than 1,000 restaurants, Lubbock is a premier destination for team and solo competitions. Check out these three sporting events that are perfect for hosting in the “Hub City.”

Lubbock’s own Buffalo Springs Lake is the perfect destination for triathlons, as the spring-fed lake stays between 70 and 74 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year. While the water is both pristine and pleasant, it’s the lakes other amenities, including the paved roads around the lake, that make it ideal for triathlons. The semi-arid climate, low humidity and moderate average temperatures provide easier conditions for the athletes, as well. It’s no surprise that the “Hub City” hosts numerous triathlons each year, such as the Doghouse Sprint Triathlon, Buffman & Squeaky Olympic Distance Triathlon and the IRONMAN 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake, an official qualifier for the IRONMAN World Championship.

Swimming & Diving

At the start of 2018, Lubbock hosted the District 3-5A Swimming & Diving Championships as well as the Lubbock Swimming and Diving Invitational, hosting competitors from across the Lone Star State. The venue of choice was the Pete Ragus Aquatic Center, a frequent host of UIL swimming and diving competitions in Texas. Complete with two eight-lane pools, three one-meter boards, two three-meter boards and seating for 290 spectators, the venue can accommodate swimming and diving competitions at all levels. The center also has the Colorado Timing System and a state-of-the-art scoreboard with graphics and photo capabilities.

Tumbling, balancing, jumping and swinging – it may be fun to watch, but gymnastics is serious business in Lubbock. In fact, the city hosted the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions twice at Texas Tech’s United Supermarkets Arena. Home to Texas Tech University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams, the 15,000-seat arena features a total of 204,025 square feet of space, locker rooms and four meeting rooms. Of course, that’s not the only gymnastics venue in the “Hub City.” The Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, Rip Griffin Center at Lubbock Christian University and Rock Solid Gymnastics can also accommodate individual competitions of all sizes.
