May brought with it a new way to spend those sunny days. Thanks to a new city ordinance, Lubbock is now home to paddle boarding at Dunbar Historic Lake. For anyone eager to test their balance and enjoy the sun, SUPLBK, a stand up paddle board rental, is open Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Sunday from noon – 6 p.m., and Mondays during holiday weekends. Boards rent for $20 an hour or $35 for two hours. All ages are welcome along with any furry friends. Make sure to mark your calendars for SUPLBK’s official launch during Memorial Day Weekend!
As you drive on South Loop 289, you might notice an new Staybridge Suites along your route. The hotel opened on Wednesday, May 10 and adds 120 rooms to the “Hub City.” Each room has a sleeper sofa, full kitchenette and comes with free breakfast. While staying at the hotel, guests will enjoy free parking, wifi, a fitness center, a half basketball court and patio. Savor food and drinks at their social hour on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. As for meetings, Staybridge Suites offers 900 square feet of space. Don’t worry about leaving your pup at home because this hotel is pet friendly. And, it doesn’t hurt that its located directly behind a slew of restaurants like Chuy’s and BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse. The grand opening and ribbon cutting are set for Thursday, June 8 at 4 p.m.
What started as storage for neon signs is now a unique food dive, complete with a vintage car or two. Cook’s Garage is located at 11002 Hwy 87 and open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to midnight. This spot offers space for guests to enjoy lunch or dinner with a menu of tasty favorites like fried cheese sticks and hamburgers. Enjoy a separate bar area for watching sports and listening to live music in the evening.
