Who can resist the smell of home-cooked meals fresh out of the oven? How about fresh from the chuck wagon? This year’s National Cowboy Symposium and Celebration
(25th Anniversary) is sure to provide visitors with mouthfuls of homemade goodies, straight from the cowboy days.
The celebration, from Thursday, Sept. 5 through Sunday, Sept. 8 features the National Championship Chuck Wagon Cook-Off, where you’ll enjoy beef soup, chili, brisket, beans, dessert and much more. Read more about the chuck wagons here.
Speaking of desserts, if you love homemade desserts (especially family recipes), you’re in for a special treat as we share a great recipe from a chuck wagon cook. This cake comes from Minnie Pearl Adams Gahagan from Jacksboro, Texas. Enjoy!
- 1 cup of Crisco
- 2 eggs
- 3 Tbsp of baking powder
- 3 cups of flour
- 1 1/2 cups of sugar
- 1 Tbsp of vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups of milk
- Mix ingredients together and bake in medium oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit until light brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
