Some say it’s the rich soil. Others swear by the abundance of sunshine in the South Plains. Whatever it may be, Lubbock’s five award-winning wineries have wowed fans with their beautifully crafted varietals for many years.

This year, the Llano Estacado Winery will welcome guests to enjoy the fruit of their labor at their 20th Annual Grape Day on Saturday, Oct. 19. Wine enthusiasts will be able to sample and pick out new favorites, while newbies like me can learn about the different varieties from the Llano staff.  The fun will start flowing at 10 a.m. and will continue until the last bottle is uncorked at 5 p.m. $5 will get you in the door and will include one complimentary glass of wine. If you want to keep the samples going, Llano will fill you up for another $3 a glass.

The one thing I enjoy most about going to Llano is their staff. They always make me feel welcome and are always willing to answer any questions that I have (which is usually a lot). The best part of all, when it comes to actually choosing a wine, they help me find a fit as if it had been planted, picked and bottled just for me.

  • Where: Llano Estacado Winery (map)
