Science Spectrum & OMNI Theater
In celebration of National Travel & Tourism Week (May 3-11), the Visit Lubbock Team surveyed thousands of past visitors to Lubbock asking them to share their favorite places to visit, eat and see. Based on those responses, we determined the top nine locations that past visitors feel every local and future visitor to Lubbock should experience. So, what popular spot came in next for visitors to Lubbock? It’s one of our favorites; the Science Spectrum & OMNI Theater.
If you have children, or have grown up in Lubbock, chances are you’ve experienced the “scientastic” fun at today’s top pick. The Science Spectrum & OMNI Theater has been welcoming visitors since 1989. The museum features more than 250 interactive exhibits, West Texas’ only public aquarium and daily, live science shows.
The Science Spectrum has been busy over the years bringing in large exhibits to the Lubbock citizens. In 2013, the museum welcomed the Butterflies Alive! Exhibit, where hundreds of butterflies lived in a 3,000-square-foot greenhouse open to the public. During the exhibit, more than 42,000 visitors came through to walk with the butterflies. Currently, the Science Spectrum is hosting the Penguin Plunge! Exhibit. From now until June 15, 2014, visitors have the chance to meet a loveable “waddle” or group of African Rock Penguins up close and personal. During this once-in-a-lifetime experience, you’ll be able to view these special creatures both on land and in the water. The penguins live, eat, sleep, swim and play in their state-of-the-art, 2,500 gallon habitat that is temperature and humidity controlled just to their liking. In conjunction with the exhibit, the OMNI Theater is playing “Penguins,” an epic journey of one penguin family.
Today’s winner of the “Hub City Hotspot” Prize Pack is Elizabeth Tarver Hill. Be sure to check Visit Lubbock’s Facebook page tomorrow morning to guess the third “Hub City Hotspot” according to previous visitors to Lubbock.
