Texas Tech University & Texas Tech Athletics
In celebration of National Travel & Tourism Week (May 3-11), the Visit Lubbock Team surveyed thousands of past visitors to Lubbock asking them to share their favorite places to visit, eat and see. Based on those responses, we determined the top nine locations that past visitors feel every local and future visitor to Lubbock should experience. It was no surprise to us that Texas Tech University and Texas Tech Athletics topped the must-see list.
Long live the Matadors! Texas Tech University prides itself on being a major, comprehensive research university that retains the sense of a smaller liberal arts institution. Although enrollment is over 30,000, Texas Tech’s students boast of one-on-one interaction with top faculty and an environment that stresses student accomplishment above all else. Texas Tech students come from every county in Texas, all 50 states and more than 90 foreign countries. The university offers 150 undergraduate degree programs through 11 academic colleges, a graduate school, medical school and a school of law. The university offers more than 100 master’s degree programs and over 50 doctoral degree programs. Once you set foot on campus, you’ll love the breathtaking architecture and beautiful landscape. Adding to that landscape, Texas Tech maintains a unique collection of public art created by leading artists of our time. In fact, the public art collection has been designated as one of the 10 Best in the U.S.
Not only does Texas Tech have amazing educational programs, but the school also has an incredible athletic department! In February 2014, ESPN ranked Texas Tech No. 1 in the top five best football student sections in the Big 12! With over 16,000 students at the Texas Tech vs. TCU football game this past year, how could you argue with their decision? While football is a huge draw in Texas, that’s not the only sport Texas Tech excels in. Whether it’s softball, baseball, tennis, soccer, track & field or more, this university knows how to put on a great event and feature amazing athletes. Red Raiders know how to get their Guns Up!
