Beginning on Friday, Sept. 6, the Buddy Holly Center invites you and your family to join them as they celebrate what would have been Buddy Holly’s 77th birthday with a weekend full of fun and exciting events! Some of the highlights include a visit from his old band, The Crickets. Yes, you heard me right. J.I., Sonny and Joe B. will all be there to celebrate. Another must-see event will be the grand opening of the J.I. Allison house, which some could say is the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll music. It’s in that very house that Buddy and J.I. wrote some of the band’s biggest hits including That’ll Be the Day.
If you would like a more personal tour of the home, we suggest that you come back on Saturday, Sept. 7. The Buddy Holly Center will provide guided tours of the Allison house at 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m. The best part – admission is FREE.
Call me crazy, but there is something special about being able to connect with items that link us to Buddy’s life. Similar to the items you can see inside the Buddy Holly Museum, the house will be the icing on the cake. Speaking of cake, you’ll want to stick around after the opening of the Allison House, which takes place on Friday at 5:30 p.m. There will be a toast and birthday cupcakes directly after at 6 p.m.
And if you have kiddos, be sure to bring them along as well. Buddy’s Birthday Bash is family friendly and will include hot rod and poodle skirt workshops for those that like to get crafty. Just be sure to sign up in advance by calling the Buddy Holly Center at 806.775.3562.
With more than a half a dozen events packed into two nights, please use the Buddy Holly Center’s website to plan your rock ‘n’ roll weekend. You can also watch a cool video about Buddy on our YouTube page. This is Daniel signing off and rockin’ out. See you there!
