See them come to life.
First along the exhibit trail is a chance to see butterflies actually come to life. The journey of metamorphosis is fascinating from egg, to caterpillar, to chrysalis, to adult. You’ll get the opportunity to view this interesting process as these caterpillars transform into beautiful butterflies.
Walk among the butterflies.
The largest portion of the exhibit is a 3,000-square-foot garden enclosure that houses flowering plants, trees and ornate water features. Thousands of butterflies are flying freely through the enclosure, giving you an up close and personal encounter with one of nature’s most beautiful insects. Chances are you’ll find a friend or two. Around 23 different species will be flying through the exhibit at any given time.
Learn to grow a butterfly garden.
Once you’ve made friends with the butterflies in the garden enclosure, you’ll step out to learn how to make them frequent visitors at your own home. Find out which plants bring in specific butterflies and learn how to best take care of them in your own yard.
Give your kids an interactive experience.
Rounding out the exhibit is a fun, hands-on station built just for kids. Let them dress up as butterflies, create butterfly crafts and much more.
Catch a show.
Don’t forget that the OMNI Theater is showcasing Flight of the Butterflies to correlate with the exhibit. Ticket prices and show times can be found at www.sciencespectrum.org.
