About an hour and a half northeast of Lubbock, you’ll find Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway, an outdoor enthusiast’s dream with 90 miles of hiking, mountain biking and horse riding trails. Located about 45 miles south of Lubbock, Lake Alan Henry is a reservoir on the upper Brazos River Basin. The camping facilities at Lake Alan Henry are well-maintained, featuring picnic areas, restrooms and designated camping spots for tents and RVs. The camping facilities are located in the Sam Wahl Recreation Area, and campsites are first come first serve. The Sam Wahl Recreation area is home to a fishery among the top five in Texas.
