6 Lubbock Dessert Spots to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

You’ve all heard breakfast is the most important meal of the day; well, unless breakfast entails French toast or coconut pancakes, I’m out. When it comes to my first meal of the day (and any other meal, for that matter), I want to hear all the sweet options. Lucky for you, I have mastered the art of the sweet tooth and sampled cookies, cupcakes, homemade pies and ice cream sandwiches throughout the city. Check out six of my favorite dessert dives!

  1. The Funky Door Bistro & Wine Room

Ask any local where they like to go for wine and live music, and you’ll often hear “The Funky Door!” Yet the star of the show here just might be the savory and oh-so succulent fondue. While offerings like the bananas foster and strawberry shortcake are delicious, I always opt for my favorite: The Funky Door Candy Bar Fondue. Made with a blend of milk chocolate, crunchy peanut butter and caramel, it’s got the perfect balance of sweet and salty.

All fondues come with angel food bites for dipping, and you can also choose from goodies like graham crackers and fresh fruit. Grab a group of friends and savor a big pot of dessert fondue and a glass of wine at this Lubbock hot spot.

  1. The Honeycomb Pie Shoppe #2

Chances are, you’ll find your favorite flavor of pie at The Honeycomb Pie Shoppe—and it’ll be better than any you’ve had before. “Pie fixes everything,” says Jennifer McClintock, owner of The Honeycomb Pie Shoppe #2,  and she is right. Some of Honeycomb’s recipes have been passed down from generation to generation (#1 is in Levelland, owned by Jennifer’s mother-in-law).

Each 10-inch pie is made of handmade crust, and some with three-inch thick meringue sure to impress even the best of bakers. Take your pick from their long list of pies, including key lime, brownie bottom, buttermilk and coconut meringue (my personal favorite), by the slice or by the pie. They also serve homemade soups, sandwiches and salads.

  1. Kurbside Sweets

What could be better than a hand-crafted ice cream sandwich with none other than Blue Bell ice cream?  Kurbside Sweets opened in February 2016 and quickly became a local favorite serving tasty treats from a food truck. Mix and match flavors like Butterfinger with snickerdoodle cookies, cookies ‘n’ cream with M&M Kooky cookies or the classic favorite: Homemade Vanilla between chocolate chip cookies. Kurbside Sweets also serves up delicious floats!

  1. The Ruffled Cup Cupcakery & Sweet Shoppe

With more than 200 unique flavors of cupcakes, rotating regularly, The Ruffled Cup gives you a reason to keep coming back, because no trip is ever the same. The Marilyn is the most popular cupcake choice here, made of almond cake with raspberry filling and cream cheese frosting. To top the menu off, the Italian cream cupcake is crowned with toasted coconut and delectable icing while the s’mores cupcake is just as delicious.

As if the over-the-top cupcakes aren’t enough, The Ruffled Cup also serves delicious sugar cookies, brownies, banana pudding, lemon bars, cinnamon rolls, kolaches, scones, turnovers, Danishes and egg-less raw cookie dough. After all, who doesn’t love eating cookie dough, right?

  1. Simply Decadent Bakery

Simply Decadent is a Lubbock staple known for breathtaking cakes and delicious treats. This bakery serves fudgy brownies, cookies, cupcakes, creme brulee and a variety of other desserts.

Simply Decadent’s French macaroons with crisp sugar shells, chewy fillings and a light buttercream center are a MUST try. Flavors like pistachio browned butter and cherry change seasonally. Meanwhile, the huge take-and-bake cinnamon rolls (available on Fridays and Saturdays) sell out fast, delivering that amazing aroma to your own kitchen.

  1. The West Table Kitchen and Bar

Sip on craft cocktails and boutique wines paired with delectable desserts at The West Table Kitchen and Bar in downtown Lubbock. The dessert menu changes almost daily, inspired by seasonal and local ingredients. The bread pudding variations are always popular along with Angel food cakes, rocky road brownies, triple-layer red velvet cakes and espresso creme brulee, which have all been featured on the menu.
