Wizards of Pop: Sabuda and Reinhart

The book art shows a variety of media and techniques. This exhibition is organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literaure, Abilene, TX, and is locally supported by the Helen Jones Foundation and the Museum of Texas Tech Univeristy Association. South Plains Astronomy Club and TTU Museum host Venus Transit Observing Party

South Plains Astronomy Club and Texas Tech University Museum will host an observing party for the Transit of Venus on June 5 in front of the TTU Museum. A transit is when an object moves across the face of another astronomical body. In this case, small Venus will slowly crawl across the face of the Sun, leaving what appears to be a small black disk or hole.There will be a number of solar filter telescopes. Three Rivers Foundation for the Arts and Sciences (www.3rf.org) will stream the event from several sites in Texas and Austrailia, so any of our volunteers across north Texas and member schools can view the event even if weather interferes. Spring Gathering of the National Cowboy Symposium & Celebration

Civil War Era Drawings from the Becker Collection

The Becker Archive contains approximately 650 hitherto unexhibited and documented drawings by Joseph Becker and his colleagues, 19th centruy artists who worked as artist reporters for Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper observing, drawing, and sending back for publication images of the Civil War, the construction of the railroads, the laying of the transatlantic cable in Ireland, the Chinese in the West, the Indian wars, the Chicago fire, and other aspects of the 19th century American culture. <p>The 11th Annual <em>Storytellers</em> event is a benefit evening presented by the Covenant Health Foundation.</p> <p>The evening will open with a pre-concert party, including cocktails and heavy hors d&rsquo;oeuvres, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Buddy Holly Center at 1801 Crickets Ave. &ndash; and will close with a post-concert reception with the songwriters in Tornado Alley (adjacent to the theatre) from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.</p> <p>This year&rsquo;s headlining storytellers are:</p> <p>-<span style="text-decoration: underline;">Pam Tillis</span>, a world-renowned Grammy winner, CMA &ldquo;Female Vocalist of the Year,&rdquo; member of the Grand Ole Opry, and daughter of the incomparable Mel Tillis. Pam has had 6 No. 1 hits and 14 Top Ten hits in her storied musical career.<br />-<span style="text-decoration: underline;">Deborah Allen</span>, who has written and co-written songs for stars like Lee Ann Rimes, Tanya Tucker, Fleetwood Mac, and many others. College Baseball Night of Champions

<p>College Baseball&rsquo;s Night of Champions will feature the induction of this year&rsquo;s College Baseball Hall of Fame inductees, including Georgia Tech and Boston Red Sox great Nomar Garciaparra, as well as Rice coach Wayne Graham and St. Louis Cardinals legend Lou Brock.</p> <p>Awards scheduled to be presented during the Night of Champions include: the Brooks Wallace Award, honoring the nation&rsquo;s most outstanding shortshop; the John Olerud Award, recongizing the nation&rsquo;s top two-way player; the National Pitcher of the Year; the NCBWA Stopper of the Year; the Johnny Bench Award and the 26th annual Dick Howser Trophy, college baseball&rsquo;s equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.</p> <p>Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children in the eight grade or below.<br />Tickets can be purchased through Select-A-Seat at <a href="http://www.ticketsage.com/_lubbock/">www.selectaseatlubbock.com</a>&nbsp;or 806.770.2000</p> <p>The ceremony begins at 7pm<br />Lubbock Memorial Civic Center<br />1501 Mac Davis Lane</p>
